Hence, the following, my autobiographical essay that almost secured me a spot at a prestigious university. I am a liar. My art, my work, and my passion is writing. I write about location with hometown love, naming streets and describing places I have never set foot. I have made this more than just my business, by making it my life instead. I write. From stories that live in one paragraph to those that build in pages that may never have an end, I write.

My name is Jennifer Collis. I was born August 12th, in Saint Paul, Minnesota. My mother worked in the food service management industry before transitioning into running her own business in the same field. Throughout this time my father maintained his long term position as an Auto Worker with the Ford Motor Company, working forty to fifty hours a week. For the most part this left me on my own, or under the care of my grandparents.

I am an only child and I learned from a young age how to entertain myself. The labs were all siblings, their leader was the dalmatian I received when I was in the hospital for nearly half of the year in second grade. While having general interests is fine, in this essay you really want to show that you are serious about the field that you have indicated and that you understand at least some of the intricacies that go into that major.

In this case, you should still list some general interests you have, and instead of focusing on describing why you are qualified to study said subjects or what you want to do with it later, focus more on the fact that you are intellectually curious and show what you have done to further that specific academic interest.

For the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science Applicants: If you are applying to The Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, please tell us what from your current and past experiences either academic or personal attracts you specifically to the field or fields of study that you noted in the Member Questions section.

In many ways, this prompt is very similar to the prompt in Part 1. The only difference is that since you are applying specifically to an engineering school, your academic interests should fall within the STEM fields, and more specifically within an area of engineering. Try to highlight more of your problem-solving skills, and draw connections to how certain instances in your life make you a better engineer. As always, try to inject a personal narrative to your essay.

For example, if you are really intrigued by computers, you may share a story of how you took apart an old desktop to see how the pieces fit together or maybe how your interest in coding took flight after you decided to create your own website.

Why is an international academic experience and a two-year focus on the social sciences important to you as you consider the ways in which it may influence your future? The increased space also means the possibility to go more in depth into the reasons applying to such a specific program. To answer the first question, try to avoid general statements about how experiencing different cultures can make you a worldlier person or that it allows you to start traveling at a young age.

While we usually recommend that people stay away from name dropping professors in most essays, this program is specific enough where mentioning the work of the professors at the partner school would be a good way to explain your interest. One thing you may want to mention is how living in the country that you are learning about offers a more robust experience. You will probably have greater and easier access to a lot of first-hand source material, added with the bonus of interacting with the greatest academics in your field of choice.

Beyond that, talk about the kinds of hands-on work opportunities you will have in a foreign country. Just be sure to explain in detail how the work experience fits into your goal for a future career.

Start by brainstorming a list of answers that immediately come to mind when reading these questions. Then, see if there is a common thread that connects what you have written down. While you are answering the last prompt, it is also a good idea to include mentions of how the Sciences Po curriculum and other offerings will aid you in your endeavors.

Regardless of whether you end up choosing an intellectual research challenge or a personal ethical dilemma, make sure that you are choosing a problem that genuinely concerns you and is also one that you have really thought through. To answer this prompt fully you will not only need to walk the reader through the way that you solved the issue, but also why it matters in the first place. In addition, I experienced intergenerational impacts of residential school which led me early in my life to engage in substance abuse in order to cope with stresses of being a First Nations male in a dominant culture and faced with colonial impacts expressed through multi-layer of social systems In , a black teen by the name of George Stinney was electrocuted for the beating death of two white girls and was convicted of murder and electrocuted.

As we enter into a new century, we look back at precedents that have been set and changed by United States Supreme Court rulings Faculty members also serve as departmental advisors to students majoring in their area of study and maintain regular office hours.

Admissions Information and Deadlines GS employs a rigorous admissions process geared toward nontraditional students. Applicants are evaluated individually, with each student's background and experiences taken into account alongside more traditional measures of academic success.

Students who wish to apply to GS must submit an application, standardized test scores, high school and college transcripts, two letters of recommendation, and a non-refundable application fee. Early Action applicants receive a decision significantly earlier. My father is a PE coach and as his oldest son, he was very eager to get me started in sports as soon as possible.

As it turned out, the Florida Panthers were starting a PR initiative to introduce the youth of Miami to the sport of hockey, and my dad enrolled me in a roller hockey program at the age of three. This launched my love and passion for the sport for the next eighteen years.

To this day, my mother, a native of Cuba, has a hard time understanding why I would choose to go into a freezing ice hockey rink in Miami, Florida when I could play a sport like baseball, a beloved sport of Cubans and Americans alike. People constantly ask me why I fell in love with hockey. While there is no single reason I can summon, what drew me into the sport was the combination of the physical intensity required, the adrenaline rush from the speed and danger of the game, and my desire to be unique and stand apart from the crowd.

I thrive in a hockey environment not only because of my passion for the game, but because it pushes me mentally, while requiring specialized visualization techniques and an ability to perform under pressure. My prospects for a career in hockey couldn't have been better. The downside to my many hockey accomplishments and highlights was that academics, due to the demanding time commitment of hockey, unfortunately became a secondary priority.

Through out high school I was constantly travelling to tournaments, games, and invitational showcases in places from New England to as far as Western Canada. Travelling all of North America to play a game I loved was a dream come true, but something had to give. That something was my schoolwork. Whether it was attending three different high schools due to playing with different teams, or missing up to 25 school days in a year, I was definitely not in a position to succeed in school.

This killed me inside. In my own mind I was a student first, and hockey player second, but my grades certainly did not reflect that. And because I made an unwavering commitment to hockey, I did my best to balance the two. While I always maintained high aspirations and ambition towards my studies, including a rigorous course load of gifted and AP courses, the time commitment required by such a course load did not exactly mesh with a hockey schedule that involved: commuting four hours nightly, practicing extensively, weight lifting, and not-to-mention bi-weekly trips to the Midwest for league play.

Because ice hockey is not a traditional sport of South Florida, there were only enough players to make a team by combining all of the best players in the entire state; we couldn't simply play another team from the next town over. This meant we had to join a league in the upper Midwest, and that only added to the juggling act of school and athletics. Along with having games on Fridays, we of course had to fly up a day in advance to get to our games' locations in a timely manner.

This would mean missing multiple school days a week to play hockey. I placed out of the introductory course in English my other intended major and enrolled in the next one in sequence, only to find the teaching plodding and uncreative. I traded some AP credit for the right to enroll in an advanced physics course, soon discovering that the sole difference between it and the ordinary course was a topic I'd studied on my own, in greater depth, early in high school.

My would-be piano instructor at the Cleveland Institute of Music taught in an authoritarian style I couldn't abide; as a non-major, unable to select another teacher, I ceased my lessons. A litany of frustrations. I might have overcome them but for this last: upon my arrival at a top university, I'd hoped to be one of many intellectual peers. I found precious few. It seemed most students were closed-minded, uncultured, interested solely in the one subject they came to study, and then only as far as the studies required.

Having sought academic inspiration from my surroundings, I'd instead found an atmosphere that was intellectually stifling, even suffocating. I was an idealistic year-old boy who saw each small dream methodically dashed. I grew bitter. Finally, unable to see a worthwhile outcome, I stopped attending class altogether.

Believe it or not, this childish reaction proved not wholly unconstructive. I used the free time to study computers on my own.

The light of the atypical Ivy League student, conversely, needs to writing personal essays memoirs of an imperfect from within because of the adversity he may have faced. In order for him to transcend intellectually, he has to find that indomitable spirit. He needs to forge ahead against uncertainty because nothing was paved for him There are several reasons for choosing this article that will be mentioned later on. The main reason for picking this article is that this article does not seem to go into the specifics of the main issue regarding polygamy in North America of Mormon religion.

The next words or so should be spend answering questions that are more specific to your future goals and what kind of support you would need from an institution that would help you get there. Because ice hockey is not a traditional sport of South Florida, there were only enough players to make a team by combining all of the best players in the entire state; we couldn't simply play another team from the next town over. It excites me to think that my path to GS might be one of the most ordinary, if the word can be applied to anything about GS.
